DAEJEON, Nov. 9 (Korea Bizwire) – On Wednesday, the Korea Forest Service announced the designation of the Songnisan Trail as a National Forest Trail.
The Songnisan Trail, a forest trail that traverses the Baekdu Daegan range, passes through Songnisan National Park, which includes Beopju Temple, and Mungyeongsaejae Provincial Park, with the historic Joryeong Old Road.
The Songnisan Trail spans 208.6 kilometers, covering regions in North Chungcheong Province (Boeun and Goesan) and North Gyeongsang Province (Sangju and Mungyeong).
The trail boasts a series of old temples with significant historical and cultural value, including Beopju Temple, Gaesim Temple, and Bongam Temple, and it features a variety of renowned mountains such as Songnisan’s Cheonwang Peak, as well as Cheonghwasan, Daeyasan, Heeyangsan, Baekhwasan, Joryeongsan, Juheulsan and Gubyeongsan.
It’s also enriched with attractions like the Maltijae Observatory, Sejo Road, Yongchu Waterfall in Goesan, Sanmagi Old Road, Mungyeongsaejae Road, Ssangyong Valley, Sangju Munjangdae, and Janggak Waterfall.
As a National Forest Trail, a standardized quality management system is established to ensure a harmonious balance between preservation and use for the protection of the forest ecosystem. A public-private operation and management committee is formed to oversee systematic management.
The Songnisan Trail is one of nine trails currently designated as National Forest Trails, including the Jirisan Trail, Daegwallyeong Forest Trail, Baekdu Daegan Trail, DMZ Punchbowl Trail, Naepo Cultural Forest Trail, Uljin-Geumgang Pine Trail, Daejeon Dullesan-gil Trail, and Hallasan Trail.
