DAEJEON, Jun. 26 (Korea Bizwire) – The Korea Forest Service inaugurated the country’s first national forest recreation facility designed exclusively for dogs and their owners on June 25. The Gimcheon National Forest Campground opened its gates in Joryong-ri, Daedeok-myeon, Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang Province.
According to the Korea Forest Service, the 2.8-hectare campground features an information center, a forest product shop, 15 camping decks, and two dog exercise areas. Each camping deck can accommodate up to four people and two dogs, allowing for a maximum capacity of 30 dogs at any given time.
What sets the Gimcheon facility apart is its complete dedication to canine companions. Unlike the Hwacheon National Forest Campground, which opened in 2018 and allocated only a portion of its space (four units) for dogs, the entire Gimcheon campground is designed with four-legged friends in mind.

Reservations for the Gimcheon National Forest Campground will be available on a first-come, first-served basis starting June 27 at 10 a.m. through “Forest Trip”, the online booking system for national recreation forests. The campground will officially begin operations on July 15.
Nam Sung-hyun, head of the Korea Forest Service, said, “We have created an animal-friendly forest welfare facility that the whole family can enjoy together, in line with the growing population of pet owners.” He added, “We hope visitors will create joyful memories while staying in the forest with their dogs, surrounded by beautiful scenery.”
