SEOUL, Oct. 10 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea said Tuesday that it will provide US$2 million in humanitarian assistance to regions in the United States recently hit hard by massive hurricanes.

“We expect this assistance will help stabilize the lives of people residing in the affected areas as soon as possible and contribute to recovery efforts underway,” the foreign ministry said.

The U.S. was recently hit by devastating back-to-back hurricanes — Harvey and Irma — which reportedly left 60 and 36 people dead, respectively, mostly in Texas and Florida.

They also inflicted $180 billion and $172 billion worth of property and economic damage to those regions, according to the ministry.
