SEOUL, July 6 (Korea Bizwire)A heat wave warning was issued for most of the country on Sunday as daytime highs stayed above 30 Celsius degrees. The nationwide heat wave is expected to continue for the time being.

Heat wave warnings and watches are issued when the daily maximum sensible temperature stays above 35 Celsius degrees and 33 Celsius degrees, respectively, for more than two days.

The Korea Meteorological Administration has been running a special heat wave alert system on the basis of sensible temperature on a trial basis starting from May 2020.

Hot and humid air moved into the country along the border of the North Pacific anticyclone starting last month. Typhoon Aere, born in a tropical area, brought hot air from the south to the country.

In addition, as the ground surface is heated by the scorching sunlight, temperatures across the country have spiked. This heat wave is expected to prolong for seven or eight more days until the return of the rainy season.
