SEOUL, Dec. 24 (Korea Bizwire) — TVXQ, the South Korean pop group, has broken the record of Japan’s Oricon Daily Album Chart again with its new album “With.” “With” has sold 233,000 copies in the first week of its release. Previously TVXQ had topped the Oricon weekly pop chart in 2011 with “Tone,” in 2013 with “Time” and earlier in 2014 with “Tree.”
This is the first time a non-Western artist has beaten the previous record held by American hard rock band Bon Jovi, who had three albums that topped the chart for four weeks each. A statement on December 23 made by Oricon said, “TVXQ’s [hit album] is their fourth in a row. They are the first foreign group to have four albums all top the charts. They have broken the record and have beat the previous record holder, Bon Jovi.”
Also in terms of annual sales that include proceeds from singles, albums and DVDs, TVXQ was ranked No. 5 with 3,691 million yen (US$30.65 million), the only non-Japanese group among the top-five artists. The pop group is currently on tour with “TVXQ! Special Live Tour Tistory.”
