DONGDUCHEON, South Korea, Nov. 15 (Korea Bizwire) – Some 60 soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Division volunteered Tuesday by delivering yeontan, coal briquettes still used cooking and heating by low-income families, to 24 homes in Dongducheon.
The community outreach project, arranged with the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, first took place in 2013 to promote friendship between allied nations and serve local neighbors living near USFK military installations.
“I was worried because the weather was getting colder,” said a local beneficiary only disclosed as Park. “But with the yeontan I received today, I won’t have to worry about heating over this winter.”
“I couldn’t communicate (with the American soldiers), but it was nice having someone reminding me of my grandchildren deliver yeontan.”
