ULSAN, May 12 (Korea Bizwire) — The Taehwa River, Woehwang River, Hoeya Lake, Seonam Lake, and Ulsan Bay, all located in the southeastern city of Ulsan, will be listed on the Flyway Network Site (FNS), designed to protect migratory waterbirds.
Ulsan city government announced Tuesday that the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP), a regional platform that aims to conserve migratory waterbirds, and the Ministry of Environment and will list these locations on the FNS.
The migratory bird habitat in the Taehwa River, in particular, is the first body of water located inside a metropolitan city to be listed on the FNS.
To be listed on the FNS, the habitat must accommodate more than 20,000 water birds, or 1 percent of the entire water bird species in the world, regularly.
Ulsan’s Taehwa River habitat has been visited by more than 40,000 migratory birds each year for the past three years.
