SEOUL, March 9 (Korea Bizwire)While women working in the South Korean IT industry are paid more than in other fields, the wage gap between genders persists.

According to corporate tracker Korea CXO Institute, women in the IT industry make around 89.3 million won (US$67,550) each year, the highest among all sectors.

They were followed by those in the finance industry (86.3 million won), electronics industry (69.4 million won), automobile industry (65.1 million won), and the petrochemical sector (62.1 million won).

Sorted by company, women working at SK Telecom earned the highest annual salary at an average of 120 million won, followed by Naver (117.4 million won) and Samsung SDS (100 million won).

Business reports from 2021 submitted by each company were used as baseline data for the survey.

The gender wage gap, however, persists. While male IT employees earned around 122.6 million won per year, female employees made 89.3 million won.

Among the top eight executives at SK Telecom, only one of them was a woman. The case was the same for Samsung SDS, in which only one of the top seven executives was a woman.

Naver was the only exception. The company had 25 female executives including 42-year-old CEO Choi Soo-yeon.
