SEOUL, Jan. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — GM unveiled its new Chevrolet Volt at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show on January 12. The new 2016 model features an all new Voltec extended range electric vehicle (EREV) propulsion system composed of a lithium-ion battery, drive unit, and ‘range extending system’ engine. The new Volt can go 200 miles (320 kilometers) on a single charge, and 50 miles (80 kilometers) on electricity alone. A new higher torque 1.5-L four-cylinder combustion engine was added to extend the range.
The new Volt’s acceleration is also improved. With the new two-motor drivetrain working in all range mode and in electric only range mode, it can go from zero to 30mph (49km/h) in 2.6 seconds and zero to 60mph (97km/h) in 8.4 seconds, which is 19 percent better than the first generation Volt.
