SEOUL, Nov. 5 (Korea Bizwire) — A diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) shortage is creating extraordinary situations in the nation. Prices have soared more than 10-fold and some customers are attempting to buy DEF directly from overseas.
As the supply chain disruption has continued, it has been increasingly hard to obtain DEF at gas stations in the greater Seoul area.
Even suspected fraud cases have emerged, taking advantage of the scarcity of supplies.
However there has heart-warming news as well. Amid the deepening shortage of DEF, a gas station owner decided to offer DEF free of charge to fire trucks and ambulances, so that these emergency vehicles can keep operating.
According to industry watchers, six gas stations as of Thursday; outlets in Namdong, Seo and Bupyeong districts in Incheon; Gimpo in Gyeonggi Province and Gwangjin district in Seoul decided to donate DEF to emergency vehicles.
All six stations are run by Kim Joon-hoe, CEO of Jeonghae Networks, and Kim has provided 120 3-liter bottles of DEF to them. Banners were hung on the gas stations that read “Notice to Emergency Vehicles: Just Come and Get DEF, Life Safety Will Be Top Priority.”
