SEOUL, April 4 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that it will begin supplying fruits to childcare facilities at elementary schools on Monday.
The project will replace some of the bread and corn dogs given out to children with fruits more than once per week.
This year, the government plans to distribute fruits to some 240,000 students at 5,000 elementary schools across the country.
The fruits will be Global Animal Partnership (GAP) certified and cleaned at Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)-certified facilities.
The ministry retracted the condition this year that half of all fruits must consist of apples, pears, grapes, tangerines, persimmons and peaches, which will allow students to try a wider variety of fruits.
