SEOUL, April 5 (Korea Bizwire) — The Walter Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (APARC) at Stanford University announced on Monday (local time) that it will host a conference under the theme of “The Future of Hallyu” on April 19.
During this conference, Christopher Hanscom, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Kim Ju-oak, an associate professor at Texas A&M International University, will give a presentation about the new direction of K-drama and Korean studies.
In particular, Park Ji-eun, the star screenwriter behind the hit drama “Crash Landing on You,” will share her experience writing K-dramas in a conversation format with Young Jean Lee, a professor of theater and performance studies at Stanford University.
South Korean actor Lee Byung-hun is also slated to attend the conference and is scheduled to engage in a panel discussion with the audience.
The APRAC hosted a K-pop-themed conference last year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Korea Program, an in-house research center for Korean studies.
“Following last year’s K-pop conference, we decided to select K-dramas as the theme for the conference this year to shed new light on K-dramas that are popular in the U.S., as well as to discuss future direction,” said Shin Gi-wook, director of the APRAC.
