SEOUL, August 4 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics’ modular home concept, the “LG Smart Cottage,” is capturing growing attention among South Koreans embracing emerging lifestyle trends such as workations and the “5-to-2” urban-rural split living model.
According to LG, all 200 slots for its recent open house tour in Gimje, North Jeolla Province, were fully booked within a week of registration opening. Interest in additional viewing sessions continues to surge, the company said on Sunday.
Launched in June, the open house allows visitors to explore the LG Smart Cottage by reservation. The unit integrates LG’s cutting-edge AI appliances and HVAC technologies in a self-sufficient, modular housing format. Designed to operate entirely on electricity, the home can be equipped with rooftop solar panels for off-grid energy production.

Visitors have responded enthusiastically to the cottage’s sleek design and smart features — including IoT-enabled door locks, motorized blinds, and appliances controlled through the LG ThinQ app. The energy-efficient heat pump system and high-performance home appliances also drew praise.
LG plans to officially open the Gimje Smart Cottage to the public as early as next month. Through online reservations, customers will be able to book overnight stays and experience LG’s premium appliance lineup — including the Objet Collection WashTower Compact, dishwasher, induction cooktop, microwave oven, and water purifier — in a real-life residential setting.
The initiative reflects LG’s broader push to blend technology with evolving consumer lifestyles and offer firsthand experiences of its smart living solutions.
