SEOUL, Aug. 7 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor announced on August 6 that its Tucson was named the best compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) by automotive magazines in Germany. The compact SUV ranked first in its segment after receiving 557 points out of a possible 750 in a safety evaluation of four models carried out by Auto Bild. The vehicles were assessed in seven categories including car frame, engine and environmental friendliness, five of which Hyundai’s SUV received the best scores to beat Ford’s Kuga as well as Japanese Honda’s CR V.
In addition, in a separate assessment by another German auto magazine Auto Zeitung, Tucson scored the highest points among four models, which included the German-made Tiguan of Volkswagen. The latest edition of the Tucson was launched in the European market last month. Hyundai has been struggling to keep up sales in Europe amid aggressive marketing by competitors. In June, Hyundai Motor’s sales there grew 7.4 percent on-year, slower than the total demand increase of 14.8 percent on the continent.
