SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Korea Bizwire) – It seems like a breath of nostalgic wind is blowing on the silver screen this fall, as movies that had long faded away from memory have been re-released.
The films have not been re-released as marketing tools for upcoming films from the same directors. Rather, films that have been continuously popular among viewers for a long time are being screened again.
Milos Forman’s ‘Amadeus‘ will be re-released on October 29. The movie will be a director’s cut version, featuring an additional 20 minutes of footage. The movie created the ‘genius vs. hard worker’ model as it portrayed the crazy genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri’s complex that he could not overcome.
‘Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind‘, directed by Michel Gondry, starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, will be re-released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its release. The movie portrays a love that is fate, and is still remembered as the favorite “mellow movie” of many fans.
‘Joint Security Area‘, directed by Park Chan-wook, was re-released on October 15 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of its original release. The movie was re-mastered in digital 4K and re-mixed in Dolby Atmos cubic sound.
The re-release of ‘Back to the Future‘ is a bit more special. October 21, 2015 is the date of the ‘future’ in the movie. Both ‘Back to the Future’ 1 and 2 were digitally re-mastered and re-released on October 21, not only in Korea, but also in other countries such as France, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark and New Zealand.
Wim Wenders’ documentary ‘Buena Vista Social Club‘ will also be re-released next month after digital re-mastering. Many fans remember this movie for its strong Cuban music, as it documents the process of finding hidden musicians in Cuba, recording an album with them over six days and staging their music.
Even though new movies are continuously released, the reason old movies are re-released is because fans are willing to go to theaters and watch the movies on a big screen instead of watching them on TV or on a computer monitor.
In addition, as technology has advanced, film production companies are digitally re-mastering movies from the film era, which is leading to the re-release of movies.
