SEOUL, Oct. 17 (Korea Bizwire) – The Ministry of Oceans, Trade, and Fisheries has announced a new initiative to boost employee morale, with the introduction of “praise coupons” for all employees. Each employee will receive ten coupons, each worth 1,000 won.

They can use these coupons to commend their colleagues on an internal bulletin board, along with specific examples of their outstanding work. The recipients of these coupons can then exchange them for mobile gift certificates.

At the end of the year, the Ministry of Oceans, Trade, and Fisheries will acknowledge individual employees and departments that have received the most praise coupons.

The praise coupon system is part of the “Innovation N(N)Dolphins” program, which the ministry organized for its younger employees, who are actively contributing to changing the organization’s culture.

In the city of Changwon in South Gyeongsang Province, a group of young individuals is also driving innovation in organizational culture. The Junior Innovation Board of Changwon was created in May, consisting of 12 employees in their 20s and 30s, members of what is commonly referred to as the MZ generation in South Korea. They are working with fresh ideas to innovate the organization’s culture.

Recently, the city of Changwon held a meeting where the mayor and the Junior Innovation Board discussed various topics and shared ideas.

Government agencies have been making efforts to introduce innovative ideas in organizations that tend to resist change. For example, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety launched a “workation” program, which combines work and leisure to enhance the organization’s culture, under the name “Healing Workplace.”

Workations were offered a total of three times in Sokcho, Gangneung, and Namhae, marking the first time that it was implemented at a central administrative agency.
