SEOUL, Nov. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — With the year-end shopping season close at hand, South Korea’s major TV manufacturers are going all-out to strengthen their appeal to the consumers who are opting for larger TVs.
According to the U.S. website of Samsung Electronics Co., the company’s mini LED TV 8K Neo QLED TV is now selling at a discounted price of up to 39 percent off or US$3,500 lower than its regular price.
The price of a 4K model is also discounted by up to $1,700.
LG Electronics Inc. also discounted the price of its 83 inch OLED TV model released this year by $1,000 through its early Black Friday event held through its U.S. website.
“TVs are evolving from devices to watch broadcasting towards devices to enjoy a variety of high quality content, resulting in higher demand for high quality and large screen models,” an industry official said.
In particular, most of the consumers who replace their TVs with new ones tend to purchase larger and higher quality models.
The share of 60 inch-plus models among global TV shipments is forecast to surpass the 20 percent level in the fourth quarter of this year for the first time in history, according to industry researcher Omdia.
