SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Korea Bizwire) – Self-driving shuttles are now shuffling students across campus at the Korea National University of Transportation.
According to the KNUT, the self-driving shuttle service began on Wednesday after a launch ceremony was held at its Chungju campus, in a move to develop a brand new public transport service.

The autonomous shuttle service is a first for a university in South Korea, and the vehicles can accommodate six passengers while operating at a speed of 15 to 20 kilometers per hour.
Travelling along a 2-kilometer route with five stops in between, students can call the shuttle by scanning a QR code with their smartphone at the nearest stop.
The newly introduced smart autonomous shuttles are equipped with an inductive sensor, which receives information about its surrounding from cameras set up around the campus to avoid crashes with other vehicles or obstacles.

The autonomous shuttles and the operating system they run on were developed by the Korea National University of Transportation and the Land and Geospatial Informatrix Corporation.
