SEOUL, Jan. 6 (Korea Bizwire) — An increasing number of newlyweds are giving wedding guests thank-you gifts instead of tickets to a buffet meal as the coronavirus pandemic drags on.
Lotte Department Store said that the price of wedding gifts sold at its wedding center cost between 20,000-50,000 won (US$18-$46).
Following COVID-19 pandemic, prices jumped to as high as 100,000 won as restrictions were imposed on the number of guests allowed to attend weddings and bans on buffets.
“Inquiries about thank-you gifts more than doubled between November and December following introduction of stricter social distancing measures,” the company said.
The department store sold 400 packages of ‘noodle sets,’ priced at 90,000 won, and ‘dessert sets,’ priced at 50,000 won in December as a pilot project to meet increasing demand.
