GOYANG, Jan.27 (Korea Bizwire) – Another case where a running BMW burst into flames has been reported, marking the sixth time since a similar incident first occurred on November 3, 2015.
On January 26, a BMW driven by Lee (44) caught on fire near the Jayuro highway in Goyang City.
The fire completely destroyed the car, causing damage worth 28 million won (estimated by the fire department). The fire was put out 15 minutes after the firefighters arrived. Lee, the owner of the car, was not hurt since he was able to exit the burning vehicle before it was completely consumed by flames.
The car that burst into flames was a BMW 520d, which many have demanded that the government force BMW to recall.
The fire department is currently investigating the cause of the fire based on the testimony of Lee.
The first BMW fire occurred on November 3, 2015 near Banghwa Bridge. After that, more BMWs caught on fire in Sangam-dong (November 5), Uiwang (November 8), Yeongdong highway (December 14) and Yuseong, Daejeon (December 23).
The owner of the vehicle that caught on fire on November 3 attracted media attention as he held a personal protest by displaying his damaged vehicle in front of a BMW dealership.
