SEOUL, Jan. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — Cafe franchises are scrambling to introduce pet-related services for so-called ‘pet-fams’, or family customers with pets.
Starbucks Coffee Korea’s Namyangju outlet in Gyeonggi Province, which opened last Friday, has a 330-square-meter outdoor pet park that’s open to customers and their pets.
It is the first time for a Starbucks store to open up a space for pets.
Hollys Coffee also opened up a new store in Jeju Island last month that has a so-called ‘pet-friendly’ zone.
There, customers can sit on wide seats to accompany their pets as they enjoy their coffee. Separate kiosks are in place to place orders as they spend time with their pets.
Caffe Bene stores at Osan College and Uijeongbu Station began to accept pets in 2020 with a higher number of customers walking their pets.
“Opening up pet-friendly cafes in areas with a high number of ‘pet-fams’ helps increase sales,” an industry official said.
