SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Korea Bizwire)CGV said Wednesday it will open its first 4DX theater in Africa, leaving just Australia free of the innovation developed by the theater arm of South Korea’s largest entertainment conglomerate out of the world’s six inhabited continents.

The first theater will open in Nu Metro Cinema in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, CGV said, adding it plans to bring four more 4DX theaters to South Africa by next year.

“The place where the 4DX theater opened is at the heart of Cape Town, the center of tourism and transportation,” CGV said in a statement. “At 40 years old, Nu Metro is one of the forerunners in Africa’s movie theater industry.”

CGV said Nu Metro Cinema is South Africa’s No. 2 theater company that runs 19 multiplexes across the country. It became the first African company to transform all theaters into multiplexes in 2009.

The CJ affiliate said it will expand its 4DX theater chain to other parts of Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in the near future.

The 4DX theaters were developed by CJ 4DPLEX, a CGV subsidiary, in 2009. They provide chair-embedded sensory effects like gusts of air, scented mists, seat motion and vibrations for a state-of-the-art viewing experience.
