CHEONGJU, Feb. 15 (Korea Bizwire) – Starting in March, Cheongju Zoo will operate a new monorail specifically designed to accommodate visitors who use wheelchairs, according to an announcement from the city of Cheongju on February 14. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility and ensure a more inclusive experience for all visitors.

Funded by a 930 million won investment following the selection of the project in the ‘Open Tourism Environment Creation Project’ by the Korea Tourism Organization and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2021, the monorail covers a 227-meter route from the zebra enclosure to the observatory.

In addition to the monorail, the project also includes the construction of dedicated entrances and restrooms for individuals with disabilities, furthering the zoo’s commitment to accessibility.

The monorail service will be available from March to November, operating a pair of three-seat vehicles every 10 minutes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. It features two uphill routes: one from the zebra enclosure (Station 1) to the tropical house (Station 2), and another from the eagle enclosure (Station 3) to the observatory (Station 4).
