SEOUL, Nov. 24 (Korea Bizwire) — People who are highly confident about their life after retirement commonly have more than five channels of income set up for post-retirement life, a survey showed Thursday.
A research unit of South Korea’s asset managing giant Mirae Asset Financial Group conducted a survey of 2,000 office workers in their 40s and 50s, in which respondents scored 5.2 points out of 10 when asked about their level of confidence in life after retirement.
Respondents commonly had around 4.5 channels of income set up for post-retirement life, including the national pension.
Confident respondents with scores between 8 and 10 points had around 5.1 sources of income. The less confident respondents below 4 points had no more than around 3.8 sources of income.
“Income sources excluding the national pension influenced the respondents’ confidence toward retirement depending more on how many income sources there were, rather than how much the income was,” the center said.
As for the factors that undermine confidence in retirement, 37.3 percent pointed to their health, followed by a “lack of retirement assets including real estate and financial assets” (21.8 percent), “loneliness in retirement life” (12.4 percent), and “shortage or lack of financial income” (10.9 percent).
Asked about ways to raise confidence in retirement life, the most common answer at 15.9 percent was “being with family.”
