SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Korea Bizwire) –Coupang’s innovative approach of integrating its services, particularly through bundled products linked with Rocket Wow benefits, has proven to be highly effective.
This strategy has led to significant achievements in both the video streaming and food delivery markets, with Coupang Play securing the second position in South Korea’s streaming market, and Coupang Eats surpassing Yogiyo as the second-largest food delivery app.
According to a recent survey conducted by Mobile Index, a mobile big data platform, on January 24, Coupang Eats achieved a DAU (Daily Active Users) count of 1,115,160, surpassing Yogiyo’s 1,001,706.
This is the first time Coupang Eats has outperformed Yogiyo since its launch. Coupang Eats’ success can be attributed to the 10% automatic discount offered to Rocket Wow subscribers, initially applied in certain areas in April last year and expanded nationwide in November.
Coupang Play’s growth in the streaming market is also noteworthy.
Data from WiseApp revealed that Coupang Play reached 7.66 million app users last month, becoming the first domestic streaming app other than Netflix to exceed 7 million users, surpassing apps like Tving and Wavve that are operated by major broadcasting and telecom companies. Rocket Wow members can access Coupang Play for free.
Furthermore, Coupang’s user base continues to grow. WiseApp reported that in December of last year, Coupang’s estimated transaction volume reached a record high of 4.28 trillion won, a 23% increase from the previous year.
This figure was estimated from credit and debit card transactions, account transfers, and mobile phone micro-payments of Koreans aged 20 and above.
“The strengthened Wow membership benefits linked with ‘Coupang,’ ‘Coupang Eats,’ and ‘Coupang Play’ have contributed to expanding the user base and minimizing user attrition, continuously expanding the Coupang ecosystem,” noted WiseApp in a statement.
