SEOUL, Feb. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – With a growing number of South Korean pet owners, demand for pet goods and accessories is also on the rise with the Lunar New Year holiday just around the corner.
SSG.com, an online shopping mall run by South Korean retailer Shinsegae Group, reported a 50 percent increase in sales of pet hanbok, or pet costumes designed after the country’s traditional attire, and 34 percent increase in pet toy sales between January 19 and February 1.
Sales of pet snacks and health supplements jumped by 12.8 percent over the same period.
Lotte Shopping Co., the operator of South Korea’s biggest department store and hypermarket, introduced egg tarts and other specially made snacks for pets through Lotte ON, its integrated online shopping website.
Out of six Lunar New Year packages released by a pet shop in Lotte Department Store, three were already sold out just two days after their release.
“As more people are staying at home over the holidays, demand for pet products is expected to grow,” said Lotte ON.
