EVs Account for 20 pct of Hyundai Motor’s Sales in Europe


SEOUL, April 5 (Korea Bizwire)Electric vehicles (EVs) now account for more than 20 percent of Hyundai Motor Co.’s sales in the European market.

The carmaker said it sold a total of 57,842 units in Europe in the first two months of this year, of which EVs accounted for 11,532 units. The share of EVs among Hyundai Motor’s European sales has jumped almost tenfold over the past three years.

Hyundai’s affiliate Kia Corp. also saw the share of EVs in its European sales rise from 1 percent in 2018 to 3 percent in 2019, 9 percent in 2020 and 13 percent in 2021. The share of EVs in Kia’s European sales rose further to 17 percent this year.


According to EU-EVs, a website compiling EV sales in 14 European countries, the combined market share of Hyundai Motor Group in the EU rose to 15 percent this year, up 4.9 percentage points from 11.1 percent last year.

The group were positioned at No. 2 behind Volkswagen AG.
