SEOUL, June 3 (Korea Bizwire) — Major department stores are launching an eco-friendly campaign to celebrate World Environment Day (June 5), selling a variety of fashion goods made from textile wastes.
Hyundai Department Store will hold a special promotion of eco-friendly upcycling brands on its official online shopping mall, thehyundai.com, until June 11.
Upcycling refers to the process of transforming waste materials into new products of better quality and environmental value.
Thehyundai.com will introduce some 500 eco-friendly products made by 35 Korean and foreign brands through a ‘Green Friends’ page specially designed for the occasion.
Shinsegae Department Store also plans to hold an eco-friendly campaign, the Eco-Friendly Fashion Fair, to sell eco-friendly apparel made by 34 eco-friendly brands using plastic waste.
Among them, contemporary fashion brand National Geographic will introduce its Green Tee collection where designs of various endangered animal species are printed onto eco-friendly textiles.
Some of the profits will be used to support various expeditions to protect endangered animal species.
