DAEGU, Nov. 5 (Korea Bizwire)A local government has distributed 2,500 copies of the “2016 Dokdo Calendar” abroad in a bid to publicize South Korea’s sovereignty over the rocky outcroppings in the East Sea, officials said Thursday.

North Gyeongsang Province, also called Gyeongsangbuk-do, launched the campaign in 2013 to help counter Japan’s claim to Dokdo. The province has the islets under its jurisdiction.

The English calendar features a dozen ancient maps and photos of nature on the islets.

The provincial authorities sent 2,500 copies to colleges, law firms and maritime research institutes, as well as individuals in 52 nations.

“We expect more foreigners to have a better understanding of South Korea’s ownership of Dokdo and pay attention to Dokdo,” said Lee Sang-wook, head of the east coast development team at the provincial government.’
