SEOUL, Jan. 22 (Korea Bizwire)Donga ST, the marketer of Korea’s legendary Bacchus drink, plans to raise global sales through various marketing activities overseas. Last year, it exported approximately 37 billion won (US$34 million) worth of Bacchus worldwide, a 21% rise over 2013, thanks to growth in the existing markets of Cambodia, Mongolia, the Philippines and the U.S., and new launches in Guatemala and Ghana.

Sales in Cambodia were particularly noteworthy, as they showed big leaps since the beverage was introduced in 2009, from 5.2 Billion won to 17.2 billion won in 2012 and 27.7 billion won in 2013 thanks to TV commercials, outdoor signboards and various events. To reenact the success in Cambodia, Donga ST will promote various events worldwide.

In Guatemala, it sponsored the first Bacchus Marathon Race on January 11, offering T-shirts and souvenirs adorned with the Bacchus logo. In Vietnam, it will sponsor the World Tennis Championship to be held in June, as well as other sports events. In the Philippines, it will raise its brand image by holding a marathon race in March.

First introduced in Korea as a drink in 1963, Bacchus has sold 18.2 billion bottles as of 2014. If you were to stand every bottle sold on top of each other, the chain would circle the earth 57 times.
