Electric Scooters Rise as Alternative to Public Transportation Due to Coronavirus

SEOUL, June 11 (Korea Bizwire)In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the newly emerging ‘untact’ culture is encouraging people to ride shared electric scooters instead of using public transportation.

According to the data by mobile big data platform IGAWorks, the number of electric scooter app users on Android phones went from 37,000 people to 214,000 people since last April, an increase of more than 600 percent.

Approximately 79,000 people used Kickgoing on Android phones every month, setting a new record.

Monthly users of Xing Xing also outstripped the 60,000 ceiling last month for the very first time. Gogossing, Gkuter, Deer, and other scooter apps also set a new usage record last month.

Electric scooters are good alternatives for the subway and buses under current circumstances, riders said.
