SEOUL, Nov. 9 (Korea Bizwire) — Single-person households in the vast majority of regions in South Korea are projected to account for more than 30 percent of all households by 2047.
The KB Financial Group’s research unit published a report on single-person households in South Korea on Monday.
The institute conducted a survey of 2,000 adults between the ages of 25 and 29 with experience living in a single-person household for more than three months in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Sejong City, and six metropolitan cities in the country.
This year, the number of single-person households in the country reached approximately 6.17 million, and the figure continues to rise each year.
Statistics showed that there were 1.9 million men and 2.2 million women living by themselves. Most men living alone were in their 20s or under (31.2 percent), while women living alone were more likely to be in their 70s and over (30.6 percent).
The institute projected that there will be an annual increase of 150,000 single-person households over the next five years.
Single-person households are expected to account for 37.1 percent of all households across the country by 2047, according to recent projections.
