SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Korea Bizwire) – Female artists claimed nine of the top 10 spots on YouTube Korea’s most popular songs list this year, marking a significant milestone for women in the Korean music industry.
YouTube announced its domestic trends list on December 12, highlighting the year’s notable topics, creators, popular songs, and trending Shorts content.
QWER’s “Addiction to Worry” topped the list, which was compiled based on YouTube views of music videos and lyric videos in South Korea. The song, created through fitness creator Kim Gyeran’s YouTube series, features an upbeat band sound expressing the narrator’s thoughts about getting closer to someone they admire.
Following the chart-topping hit were aespa’s “Supernova,” ILLiT’s “Magnetic,” and (G)I-DLE’s “I Hate Getting Hurt.” Among boy groups, TWS’s “First Meetings Don’t Go As Planned,” which sparked a viral Shorts challenge, was the only entry to make the top 10.
The platform’s Shorts format saw success with creator-driven musical content, including creative reinterpretations and parodies like “Malatang Hulu” and “Tiramisu Cake.” Seo Eve’s “Malatang Hulu,” which spawned a viral challenge with its original song and choreography, ranked seventh among popular Shorts content, while “Tiramisu Cake” secured ninth place.
Bobby Caldwell’s “What You Won’t Do For Love,” which became the soundtrack for the popular “Moving Challenge” where users film while moving their cameras to the rhythm, claimed the top spot for Shorts music.
The year’s trending topics included “Olympics,” “Culinary Class Wars,” “Lovely Runner,” and “Queen of Tears.” BokyemTV was named the top creator of the year.
