SEOUL, Dec. 21 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co.’s Galaxy smartphones has faster download speeds than Apple Inc.’s iPhone 12 models on local networks in South Korea, a market tracker said Monday.
Ookla, which runs internet speed measurement tool Speedtest, conducted a 5G download speed test for major smartphones in the third quarter of this year.
This test showed that the download speed of the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G stood at 221.18 megabits per second (Mbps), the fastest among major models available in the domestic market.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G was followed by the Galaxy S21 5G at 215.1 Mbps, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G at 199.91 Mbps and iPhone 12 at 193.34 Mbps.
In the LTE download speed test, the Galaxy S9 Plus ranked first with a download speed of 60.41 Mbps. The top four spots were occupied by Galaxy models. The iPhone 11 ranked fifth with a download speed of 56.96 Mbps.
This test, however, did not include the new iPhone 13 series, which was released this autumn. The devices took the top spot in nearly all of the countries where it was included in the test.
In the meantime, the Galaxy S21 Ultra download speed set a new domestic record for 5G download speed, about 3.7 times faster than 60.41 Mbps, the domestic LTE download speed record set by Galaxy S9 Plus.
