POHANG, Nov. 19 (Korea Bizwire) — A colossal experiential art installation, titled ‘Space Walk’, reportedly the largest experiential artwork in the nation, debuted on Thursday at Cheering Park in Pohang, “City of Steel” in North Gyeongsang Province.
The steel-based art sculpture — a curved track measuring 60 meters wide, 57 meters long and 25 meters high — was designed to provide a panoramic view of the surrounding scenery including the Pohang Steel Mill and Yeongil Bay.
With the appearance of a roller coaster or “cloud” because it resembles a cloud resting in the park, the total length of the artwork reaches 333 meters, and about 317 tons of steel — made by POSCO — was used.
POSCO signed an agreement with the city government of Pohang in April 2019 to develop a new park attraction, and spent 11.7 billion won (US$9.89 million) to build the new landmark.
The company is planning to donate the art installation to the city of Pohang.
