HAMPYEONG, Oct. 11 (Korea Bizwire) – A golden bat sculpture crafted from 162 kilograms of pure gold located in Hampyeong-gun, South Jeolla Province, will be relocated next spring.
The Hampyeong County Office announced on Tuesday that the golden bat sculpture, currently housed within the Golden Bat Ecological Exhibition Center near Hampyeong Expo Park, will be moved approximately 500 meters away to Hampyeong Expo Park in April 2024.
The sculpture will be showcased in a designated exhibition hall with a floor area of 87 square meters, situated at the entrance of the Cultural Heritage Museum—a two-story building currently under construction.
The Hampyeong County Office has devised plans to equip the Golden Bat Exhibition Center with security shutters and bulletproof glass, and additionally, will obtain burglary insurance with an annual premium of 22 million won.
In addition to 24-hour surveillance by a security firm, civil servants will conduct watch duties on a daily basis in pairs.
Furthermore, motion sensors and several CCTV are expected to be installed within the Golden Bat Exhibition Center. For this purpose, the County Office will secure funding of 500 million won.
The current estimated value of the golden bat sculpture is approximately 14 billion won—five times higher than its purchase price 15 years ago.
