SEOUL, Dec.10 (Korea Bizwire)The government has announced that a public service that will offer new and small businesses advice on the usage of big data is set to be launched.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning announced that the K-ICT Big Data Center from the National Information Society Agency will be providing assistance through an agency dubbed the ‘Big Data Clearing Service’.

Big data refers to massive numeric data sets that include information such as consumer behavior and production progress. Using different analytical techniques, the data can be used to cut costs and develop new businesses, and is sometimes called the ‘oil of the new industry’.

However, it has been difficult to use big data, as the data sets might contain delicate personal information, there exists the possibility of violating the copyright of the original when processed, and legal matters regarding these situations were always complex. Also, analyzing the data was a difficult job for small businesses and startups.

However, through the ‘Big Data Clearing Service’, companies can receive expert consultation on legal matters and technology regarding big data, and be connected to big data businesses by phone (1670-1317) or on the web (http://kbig.kr).

Officials from the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning commented that they will provide ‘one-stop’ consultation on all fields regarding big data, such as planning, analysis, development, data quality management and legal conflicts.

The Big Data Center of K-ICT is also planning to provide face-to-face consultation at Pangyo’s Creative Economy Valley Center in February 2016.
