SEOUL, Dec. 22 (Korea Bizwire) The Ministry of Science and ICT on Tuesday made an administrative notice on the upward revision of the output standards for some Wi-Fi 6E (6th Generation Extended) frequency bands.

Compared to existing Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E that uses the 6 gigahertz (GHz) frequency band (5,925∼7,125 megahertz (MHz)) is up to five times faster, and offers simultaneous access to 1.5 times more connections.

The ministry noted that the output standard for the 500 MHz band (5,925∼6,425 MHz) among the 6 GHz band class will be upgraded from 25 megawatts (MW) to 250 MW.

In October, when the ministry supplied the 6 GHz band in Wi-Fi 6E format, the ministry limited the Wi-Fi 6E output in subway cars to 25㎽ as a way to avoid interference with existing wireless stations.

Thereafter, the industry called for the ministry to alleviate 6 GHz band output standards to promote smooth Wi-Fi 6E use in subway cars.

In response, the ministry decided to raise the output standards while limiting the usage scope of Wi-Fi 6E in subway cars to the range from 5,925 to 6,425 MHz.

If the output is raised to 250 MW, the coverage of Wi-Fi 6E should be expanded enough to make Wi-Fi 6E available throughout one subway car.
