SEOUL, June 29 (Korea Bizwire) — The government has established an artificial intelligence (AI)-based electric supervision system for people wearing electronic ankle monitors as part of efforts to manage them in a more efficient manner as well as to prevent any recidivism.
Early this year, the Ministry of Justice announced that it had introduced an AI e-supervision service that ensures a preemptive response to those with electronic ankle monitors by analyzing their patterns of movement and criminal information.
The ministry developed the AI control-probation model by analyzing 9.83 million cases of information on people with electronic ankle monitors, including data on recidivism, the content of interviews and location information.
The ministry also created a big data analysis platform to ensure more efficient collection, analysis, convergence and use of such data.
In the past, when an alert was generated due to the violation of compliance obligations by people with electronic ankle monitors, officials in charge of managing them had to search through information manually to interpret the data and make a decision on how to handle the situation.
Since the AI control system entered use, however, the AI automatically provides needed information whenever an alert is generated. In case of a simple alert that does not require follow-up measures, the AI automatically analyzes and handles the situation.
