SEOUL, June 9 (Korea Bizwire)The government has launched a pilot program in which robots are being used to automate repetitive and standardized tasks.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on Wednesday the launch of a pilot program that will introduce so-called Robotic Process Automation (RPA) at several ministries and agencies.

The state postal service Korea Post, for instance, was asked by the court and national police agency to provide information on about 20,000 financial transactions in 2021, and this figure has been on an upward trend in recent years.

Using RPA, Korea Post will be able to save about 3,000 work hours per year.

The National Tax Service has mobilized about 30 employees whenever it checks various national tax administration systems used frequently by citizens.

Automation would contribute to saving time spent on such work by about 1,500 hours per year as well as reducing system errors.

The Public Procurement Service will apply RPA to analyze the adequacy of employee compensation and the unit price of building materials such as insulating materials and cement that are components of construction costs before opening bidding for facility construction.

RPA would contribute to saving the time spent on such work by about 16,000 hours for about 3,000 construction projects that are managed by about 34 employees.
