HWACHEON, Oct. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — A crowdfunding campaign launched by students at Sanae High School, located in the remote county of Hwacheon, about 120 kilometers northeast of Seoul, to help stray cats has ended in success after surpassing fundraising goals.
The crowdfunding campaign, which took place between Sept. 18-Oct. 12, was supported by 457 donors, raising approximately 1.3 million won (US$1,134) and surpassing fundraiser goals by 1 million won.
The funds will be spent on purchasing cat food and litter, supporting trap-neuter-release (TNR) programs, buying vaccines for cats, and sending out appreciation bracelets to supporters.
Level Up, a student club dedicated to animal protection, was established by 10 students early this year to help feed stray cats living at a school recently emptied out by the coronavirus.
The club soon exhausted its financial resources, however, if it was to keep felines safe and healthy, and decided to start an online fundraiser.
In the meantime, Three newborn kittens joined the cat family.
