SEOUL, May 28 (Korea Bizwire) — Competition is heating up among South Korea’s major home appliance makers to get the upper hand in the wine cellar market, which has been growing at a healthy pace thanks to the increase in the number of people drinking at home resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sales and revenues from wine cellars registered robust growth of 33 percent and 83 percent, respectively, over the past two years, according to the price comparison site eNuri.com.
Winia Dimchae Co., known for its Dimchae kimchi refrigerator, recently rolled out the Winia Bordeaux Refrigerator, which combines the function of a general refrigerator and wine cellar for the first time in the industry.
Carrier Refrigeration released the Carrier Wine Cellar Dual, which enables users to set different temperatures by up to 15 degrees Celsius for the top and bottom sections of the cellar.
This function is based on the idea that the optimal storage temperature differs by wine type.
Primed with the most diverse range of wine refrigerators among domestic companies, LG Electronics Inc. said that sales of its large wine cellars that can store up to 43 wine bottles more than doubled this year compared to a year ago.
Samsung Electronics Co. is targeting wine aficionados with a niche product. The company released a small refrigerator called the BESPOKE Cube that is optimized for wine storage.
This model allows users to set the most optimal temperature ranging from 5 to 18 degrees Celsius depending on the items being stored.
