Hwaeomsa Temple to Host Yoga Festival in Celebration of World Yoga Day

GURYE, May 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Hwaeomsa, a thousand-year-old temple and the head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism nestled on the slopes of Jirisan, has announced its plans to kick off the “3rd Jirisan Hwaeomsa Yoga Grand Festival” on June 10. The event, to be held in the front yard of Hwaeomsa Temple in Masan-myeon, Gurye-gun, South Jeolla Province, marks the occasion of World Yoga Day.

Five hundred applicants from across the country will be recruited through Hwaeomsa Temple’s website on a first-come, first-served basis starting from May 9. Participants will include not only Indians living in Korea and yogis but also individuals sponsored by the Indian Embassy.

The festival will feature a unique sequence of performances by the Indian Cultural Center’s yoga team and the Korea Yoga Association demonstration team, including Haegeum and Gayageum, a traditional Korean stringed instrument. Additionally, national rhythmic gymnast Son Ji-in will grace the occasion with her exquisite rhythmic gymnastics performance.

The festivities will culminate in a grand production performance to the tune of a wind quartet, symbolizing the recognition of differences and unity.
