SEOUL, May 5 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Group on Thursday unveiled the software-defined vehicle (SDV) technology featured in Kia Corp.’s all-electric EV9 flagship SUV.
The automotive group posted a new YouTube video which showed that the EV9′s over-the-air (OTA) software update system will now cover not only core parts of the vehicle but also the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and other convenience features.
OTA allows the owner to update the car’s various features or add new functions without having to visit a local service center.
With the all-new OTA system, the EV9 has become the first model to introduce features on demand (FoD), which allows customers to selectively purchase and install a variety of software for their vehicles, just like downloading an app.
The FoD service can be accessed through Kia’s Connect Store webpage or My Kia, Kia’s dedicated smartphone app.

FoD features that are currently available on the Connect Store include Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2), a parking assistance feature, Lighting Patterns, a feature that allows users to change the shape of the digital lighting grill, and Streaming Plus, which allows users to enjoy videos and music in the car.
The EV9 is also the first Hyundai Motor Group vehicle to feature Highway Driving Pilot (HDP), which currently has a speed limit of 80 km/h.
The speed limit will be lifted with additional features through future updates.
Other convenience features, such as movies, games, and video conference platforms, will become available on the Connect Store.
