SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Korea Bizwire) – A new piece of art created through a sponsorship from Hyundai Motors is being exhibited at Tate Modern in England.
Hyundai Motor opened the ‘Hyundai Commission 2015′ at Tate Modern, an international museum of modern art located in London, England.
The exhibit continues until April 3, 2016, and introduces the work of Abraham Cruzvillegas, a sculptor and conceptual artist from Mexico. The piece that is being exhibited is called ‘Empty Lot’.
The piece is staged in the Turbine Hall, located in the heart of the museum. A total of 240 wooden plant pots containing 23 tons of soil and compost from parks and gardens around London are placed on two giant triangular structures that dominate the hall.
“I brought soil from various locations all around London including Buckingham Palace. The piece will send out a message of hope and anticipation, as visitors can witness what happens during the next 6 months,” said Cruzvillegas, commenting on the meaning of the piece.
Hyundai Commission is an exhibition project Hyundai Motors is staging together with Tate Modern to enhance the development and popularization of modern art.
Through the Hyundai Commission, Hyundai Motors plans to select and stage the works of one of the most innovative artists at the Tate Modern every year for the next 10 years.
