SEOUL, April 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Co. is leading Brazil’s automobile market, despite an overall slump in sales due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brazil’s vehicle distribution federation Fenabrave reported that Hyundai sold 18,761 units of HB20 compact car, a model exclusive to the South American market, in the first quarter of this year despite the market’s overall sales plunge of more than 20 percent, topping sales charts.
Hyundai also sold 12,667 units of Creta compact SUV, 6,763 units of HB20S and 1,641 units of Tucson SUV.
Hyundai released the HB20 following the completion of a manufacturing plant in São Paulo in 2012, which kept its reputation as the country’s second bestselling vehicle for 2020 and 2021.
Creta was released in 2017, 90 percent of which are sold in Brazil. The remaining vehicles are exported to neighboring South American countries.
