IKSAN, April 19 (Korea Bizwire) — The southwestern city of Iksan on Tuesday announced the opening of a new bicycle path, which is more than a kilometer long, starting from Geumma Crossroad, Cheonma-dong Village, to the Baekje Palace Ruins.
The Baekje Kingdom was one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, along with Koguryo and Silla, which ruled the midwestern region of Korea from 18 B.C. to 660 A.D.
Retaining wall blocks have been set up along certain parts of the bicycle path, using the local farm waterways, and guardrails have been installed to prevent traffic accidents.
The bicycle path will enable visitors to tour Geumma Hanok Village, Mireuksa Temple Site, the Iksan National Museum, and the Palace Ruins on bicycles.
The construction of the bicycle path began in December 2021 as part of a project to establish a world heritage road.
The city stated that once the extension from Geumma to the Mireuksa Temple Site is added, the bicycle tour, centering around Geumma, will expand.
