SEOUL, June 30 (Korea Bizwire)Kang Goo-young, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) Ltd., will step down this week, about three months ahead of the official end of his term, industry sources said Monday.

Kang plans to resign from the CEO position of the South Korean aerospace and defense systems manufacturer on Tuesday, according to the sources.

He reportedly offered his resignation to the state-run Korea Export-Import Bank of Korea, KAI’s largest shareholder, on June 4, which marked the first official day of South Korea’s new administration under President Lee Jae Myung.

Kang, a former Air Force commander, has since been overseeing key business matters and preparing for the company’s leadership transition, according to the sources.

Appointed in September 2022 under the previous Yoon Suk Yeol administration, Kang’s three-year term was originally set to end in September. The early departure is seen as intended to facilitate a smooth leadership transition under the new government.

KAI is expected to operate under an acting CEO system until a new chief is appointed.
