SEOUL, Nov. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — Kia said Thursday that its PV5 passenger model has been named “Family Car of the Year” at the 2026 TopGear Awards, marking the first time a van—rather than an SUV or sedan—has won the category from the influential British automotive magazine.
The annual awards evaluate newly released global models across segments, with winners selected for their performance, design and overall value. TopGear described the PV5 as offering “generous space, a fresh and future-focused design and exceptional efficiency,” while also standing out for strong price competitiveness. The magazine also praised the van’s driving performance, quiet ride and “clear design direction tailored to families.”
The PV5 is a midsize purpose-built vehicle (PBV) developed to accommodate a wide range of customer needs, integrating hardware flexibility with software solutions aimed at optimizing business and mobility environments.
Hyundai Motor Group, Kia’s parent company, secured two awards this year: Kia’s PV5 for Family Car of the Year and Hyundai’s Casper Electric for Small Car of the Year, marking the group’s fifth consecutive year of wins since 2021.
Mark Hedrich, head of Kia Europe, said the recognition underscores how PBVs can enhance daily family life. “The PV5’s spaciousness, modular flexibility and refined driving experience show the potential of PBVs in everyday use,” he said, adding that the award will support Kia’s efforts to expand its PBV lineup in Europe.
