SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — An online tourist program focusing on “makgeolli,” South Korean traditional grain-based alcoholic drink, is gaining popularity in Japan.
The Korea Tourism Organization said Wednesday that it will host a second makgeolli tasting tour this Saturday jointly with JALPAK, a Japanese tour agency. A similar tasting tour was first held last month.
The online tour brings viewers to a makgeolli brewery in the southeastern city of Ulsan to visit the facility. Participants will receive two high-end makgeollis brewed there, and taste them with a makgeolli sommelier online.
The tour package costs 9,900 yen (US$89.84), which is more expensive than the average cost of 1000-3000 yen for online tours. However, the program attracted more than 40 people last month, filling up almost all 50 of the spots available.
